Interviewed a handful of applicants last month. I was most shocked by how a number of them turned up late for the job interview and with nary a hint of panic, apology, or apocalyptic anguish. The #tita in me could only shake her head.

The most memorable was the applicant who lives in Makati, but still wasn’t able to make it to our Makati office on time. I pressed her over and over for an acceptable excuse but she could only come up with “the traffic in Makati Avenue.” I wanted to cry.

I once interviewed someone who very obviously wanted to be somewhere else she couldn’t even be bothered to stop looking at her phone — or close her laptop. Needless to say, that was the shortest interview I’ve ever conducted. But still longer than she deserved.
